Pastoral Care Policy
AIMS
- To value and develop each member of the school community.
- To promote learning at every level for the student.
- To support the student at all times, but especially when ability to learn is adversely effected by personal, social or domestic circumstances.
OBJECTIVES
- To promote a happy school community conducive to personal and academic development.
- To encourage a sense of social justice within the school community.
- To establish and maintain a good rapport between school / home and community.
LEARNING FOR LIFE
- To prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities and challenges of adult life.
- To provide a caring supportive environment.
- To liaise with Class Tutors, Deputy Principal, Principal and other staff / Parents.
- To create a positive atmosphere within the year group thus promoting the wellbeing and development of students.
PROVISION FOR PASTORAL CARE WITHIN THE SCHOOL
- There is an organised programme of pastoral care for each year group.
- A year plan of Pastoral activities is drawn up.
- A timetabled Social Personal Health Education programme is designed to promote aspects of personal and social development.
- The Pastoral Care Co-ordinator and committee meet once a week to organise, monitor, evaluate and review the pastoral programmes.
- Care for all students is ensured by having a structure of regular contact with year heads, tutors etc.
- Counselling when necessary.
- Regular parent contact.
- Peer Mentor Programme.
CLASS TUTOR
- The class tutor plays a fundamental role in the Pastoral Care system through their knowledge of the emotional and academic needs of all students in his / her tutor group.
- They will meet the class each morning at assembly.
SUBJECT TEACHERS
- Should be familiar with and support the Schools’ Pastoral Care Policy and report concerns to appropriate personnel.
- To foster and sustain a positive teaching and learning environment in the classroom and in the school community.
ROLE OF YEAR HEAD
- To liaise with Class Tutors, Deputy Principal, Principal and other staff / Parents.
- To create a positive atmosphere within the year group thus promoting the wellbeing and development of students.
